Ai will replace sound designers and composers

Artificial intelligence (AI) has become increasingly popular in the music production industry. It has the potential to revolutionize the way music is created and produced, making the process faster and more efficient. In this blog post, we’ll explore some of the top AI music production tools available today and how they can help you create professional-sounding music faster.

I predict that services like Spotify (just as example) will start delivering Artist radio fully comprised of music that sounds like the artists you want to hear. Or alternatively, Ai generated music that produces a very specific mood and based on the users genre preferences. The experience would be 100% customized to the user.

Here is an example of this in the beginning stages happening right now: https://openai.com/blog/jukebox/

And on the sound designer front, a programmer making a video game (unless they already have a relationship with a human sound designer and/or composer) likely won’t want the expense or time commitment of dealing with a human when the AI tools are fast, accurate and won’t be offended when you ask for something different.

Theres no denying that watching another human perform emotion evoking music is an irreplaceable experience. This will most certainly continue to be a main income source for musicians and performers alike. But data driven composition will likely be the source of the most popular musical compositions.

I’m not talking about VR or holograms here. I’m talking about how Artificial Intelligence is currently very proficient at evoking emotion in humans with music. And not just EDM, synthesized music that sounds like it was performed acoustically.

Here’s an example of an AI composition that sounds like Frank Sinatra: https://soundcloud.com/openai_audio/jukebox-265820820?ref=clipboard&p=i&c=0&si=D2F2941A6AA74BBCA26880B13D735D19&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing

Making original and compelling compositions with deep lyrics and innovation? Not a chance?

I know that it seems unbelievable, but music theory is a system of rules for describing an emotional reaction from sound to a human listener. The rules of music theory are already implemented in Ai music generators. Couple that with a little randomness, a learning program and feedback from the general public via “hearting”/“liking” and “disliking” in an interface (or similar to how Captcha helps map software learn) and it’ll only be a matter of time before the program learns what users like to hear in a localized culture.

Here’s another Ai tool that outputs unique lyrical content: https://theselyricsdonotexist.com

Slap a compelling human voice (synthesized or otherwise: see Vocaloid) and evoking chords and arrangements on and you might just hit someone right in the heart.

Can AI pump out the next Thriller or Dark Side of the Moon or Kid A or 36 Chambers etc without being fed a lot of stuff that sounds like that first?

It’s true, making music is hecka fun. And there is nothing that can replace the human expression one feels as they connect with others through music.

I suppose in the future, the same debates will happen over Ai VS 100% Organic Human-made music as there are now about the sonic fidelity between analog and digital mediums like Vinyl VS Digital.

Just as we are influenced by the music we are exposed to culturally, Ai is trained using Data Sets. The difference is that you can choose which data sets to give it. It’s just a little easier for a computer know and utilize the Delta content (the inverted focus). It can easily “see” what has been done and, in turn, what has yet to be. This could be how it can generate something we have never heard before.

Or it could be used to create combinations of styles to make something new. For example English ballads with Celtic and Irish fiddle songs to create Country Music, or African-American music such as jazz, rhythm and blues, boogie woogie, and gospel to make Rock & Roll.

It’s nearly impossible to summon creative inspiration as a human or otherwise, without some kind of outside influence. Ai is self learning and one of it’s super-powers is recognizing patterns.

The tools are already widely available

One of the most popular AI music production tools is Melodrive. Melodrive is a music production software that uses AI to generate musical content based on user-defined parameters. It uses a neural network to generate melodies, chord progressions, and rhythms. It also allows users to control the tempo, key, and style of the song. This makes it easy for musicians to quickly create professional-sounding tracks without having to manually program each element.

Another AI music production tool to consider is Splice. Splice is a platform for creating, sharing, and collaborating on music. It offers users a wide variety of sounds and samples, and its AI-driven search engine makes it easy to find the perfect sound for your project. Splice also enables users to quickly remix existing tracks and easily collaborate with other musicians.

Finally, there is Amper Music. Amper is a cloud-based music creation platform that uses AI to compose original music. Amper allows users to quickly create custom tracks based on their preferred genre, style, and instrumentation. It also includes a library of royalty-free sounds and samples, making it easy to customize your track.

These are just a few of the many AI music production tools available today. AI-powered music production tools can help musicians create professional-sounding music faster and more efficiently than ever before. As AI technology continues to evolve, it’s sure to become an integral part of the music production process.
