SHAPESHIFTING MASTERS OF DARKNESS

Dark but playful neuro-style, melodic bass music. “Unspeakable Evil” was unveiled alongside contortionists and circus performers at the Fringe’s event, “Let’s make a Deal”.

SPACEFOOD

Psytrance isn’t for everyone, but you might appreciate this sonic palette. The sound design used in every Spacefood track is created using recordings of food sounds. Can you hear it? Crackerbox distortions and eggshell snares.

HANDSOME HANSEL

Handsome Hansel is an orange alien from space, sent to earth to study human behavior. While he’s been on our planet, he’s discovered an interest in Lo-Fi music, Ableton tutorials, and making silly videos.

DIG MY VIBE?

“Try a free hour lesson on for size. If my teaching style doesn’t vibe with you, no hard feelings! I want you to be successful on your music journey in the way that suits you best!

What have you got to lose?”

I’d been wanting to get more serious about music production for years so when I stumbled across an ad for a free introductory lesson, I thought “what the heck?” Aaron was a total pro right from that very first session.

He’s always on time, knows Ableton inside and out, and brings a huge amount of enthusiasm and energy. I wasn’t totally convinced at first that lessons could be done effectively through video conferencing and screen sharing but Aaron’s been very flexible and we’ve found a system that works really well.

No book or tutorial video has been anywhere near as helpful as checking in regularly with a real person who is genuinely delighted to see me succeed with my productions. I highly recommend working with Aaron!

GarretTechno/Synthwave Producer

Aaron is an awesome teacher and a great mentor! He is very passionate and enthusiastic about teaching which makes it easier to learn.

He answers emails quickly and he’s always ready to answer your questions; He will go the extra mile for you! I learned so much in just a few months of training and was able to produce 2 songs from start to finish!

FAQ

How do I book my first lesson?

When you are ready to start lessons, click here to book your first hour: https://calendly.com/spacefood/firstfree

If you have any problems booking the lesson, please contact me via email: Spacefood@tidio.xyz

Are these pre-recorded video tutorials or am I actually speaking with a human?

These are not pre-recorded lessons. It’s just me and you, human-to-internet-to-human! 1-on-1! You can ask me a question, and show me the music you’ve been creating and I’ll respond in real-time. There are a lot of video tutorials and courses out there already. I want to offer you custom-tailored coaching that fits your needs and interests.

What genres of music is this good for?

My method of teaching is not restricted to any single genre of music. During our lessons, I will introduce methods for breaking down the crucial characteristics of a song so that you can begin to make it yourself! As far as the types of music I am best at, my favourites are Dubstep, Nero-Bass, Psytrance, and Chill-Hop!

How much does it cost?

My lessons are available in pre-paid bundles of 2 Lessons (4 Hours) for $180CAD+tax, 4 Lessons (8 Hours) for $320CAD+tax, and 6 Lessons (12 Hours) for $420CAD+tax. *Please note that each lesson is 2 hours

I’m not from Canada, can I still take lessons from you?

Absolutely! I have been making an effort to connect with more students outside of Canada. Since music is usually an evening activity for many people, I’ve been finding the timezone difference works wonderfully for my schedule! I can start my teaching day earlier and accommodate lesson times that most overseas local instructors can’t (want a midnight Ableton Lesson in the UK? I can do that!)

If you have any questions about this, please contact me using my chat button on the bottom right side of the screen.

How long is each lesson?

Each lesson is a minimum of 2 hours. It’s really the sweet-spot for this topic where we finish just in time to avoid ear fatigue and brain meltdown, but enough time to cover LOADS of useful information.

When are lessons?

You can choose any available time and day to take your pre-purchased lessons! Pick a time that works for your schedule. I just don’t work on Sundays (unless I’m holding a weekend workshop).

What do I need?

You’ll need a few basic things to take lessons with me.

  1. A computer with a minimum of 8GB of RAM
  2. A copy of Ableton Live (Intro, Lite, Standard, or Suite) *Download a free trial of Ableton Live here: https://www.ableton.com/en/trial/
  3. Your computer needs a microphone so we can communicate during our video meeting. Laptops will usually have a microphone built-in, but if you have a desktop, you may have to purchase one that’ll work for your system (if you need assistance with this, feel free to hit me up with the chat bubble in the bottom right hand corner of my site)
  4. Headphones or Monitors

There is a lot of other fun equipment that can make using Ableton a lot more fun, but the above list is the minimum you’ll need to start taking lessons.

I have never used Ableton before, can I still take lessons?

Fantastic! Please let me have the opportunity to introduce you to the best music production software in the world (IMO). My lessons are great for all experience levels, including complete beginners.

I’m an intermediate Ableton user but need someone to help me finish tracks regularly, can you help?

Definitely! A big part of what I offer is Creativity Coaching. I’ll help you avoid writers block and stay on a solid path toward your production goals. Want to finish 1 track per month? I’d love to keep you motivated, inspired and on track!

Are these lessons online or in person?

I teach 1-on-1 lessons exclusively online (unless I’m doing a weekend workshop). Online lessons are more convenient for everyone involved, and you have the option to record the entire session so you can review it later on! I will use a variety of software for video conferencing and high-quality audio streaming, but my go-to tool is called Zoom (You can read about it on their website here: https://zoom.us/

Can I take lessons in person from you?

I only offer in-person lessons during group workshops. Otherwise, I teach strictly online only!

What version of Ableton do I need?

Any version of Ableton Live 9 or 10 will do! That includes, Intro, Lite, Standard, and Suite. If you haven’t purchased it yet and you’d like to try Ableton Suite for free, head over to the Ableton Website to download a copy: https://www.ableton.com/en/trial/

What topics will you teach me?

I will teach you anything from the fundamentals to composition to mixing and mastering! Here are some common topics I cover during my lessons:

  1. Ableton Live Fundamentals
  2. Workflow
  3. Sound Design
  4. Mixing
  5. Rhythm Generation
  6. Fundamental Music Theory
  7. MIDI
  8. Ableton Instruments
  9. Ableton Effects
  10. Automation
  11. File Management
  12. Songwriting
  13. Vocal Processing
  14. So much more!

I still have questions. How can I contact you?

If you still have questions for me before you book a free hour, please use the chat in the bottom-right corner of my website ———–>

Contact me via email: Spacefood@tidio.xyz

If I don’t answer right away, I’m probably teaching a lesson and will get back to you as soon as possible via email. Please be sure to include your email address in the chat window when you say hello!
